Laisa is a young Brazilian girl who lives with her parents, Gildevan and Vera, and with two sisters (she is the middle child), in a small rural community located in the state of Ceara. Their simple home, which is self-owned, has brick walls, ceramic tile flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Running water and electricity are available. Both the parents are unemployed at this time and do odd jobs when available (he as a mechanic, she as a cleaner) and the family receives a very small family allowance from the federal government; the total income, however, is hardly enough to meet basic needs. Laisa is shy and affectionate. She helps her mom by putting the dishes away. She loves playing hide-and-seek along with her sisters and friends. Laisa is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. She attends a public school and loves Art. Her wish is to be a schoolteacher when she grows up. The family is needy and through your support Laisa and her family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation and education.
